In 1991, British Standard 7499 was introduced for the self-regulation of the Manned Guarding sector of the Security Industry. Many reputable companies began to comply with the standard and many were, have been and will be, inspected to its requirements.
The standards however fell short of including Security Dogs. The industry at the time was using dogs in small numbers, probably because of the introduction of the Dangerous Dogs Act and the bad press dogs were getting at that time.
Slowly but surely since then, Security Dogs have been re-introduced into the manned guarding sector. The industry had moved on but had still failed, probably due to the lack of expertise, to cater for Security Dogs.

Although not founded until 1974 it had been visualised by the founder members for many years. The ever increasing use and need for working dogs, particularly in the field of security in its various forms, made its formation necessary. The Guard Dogs Act 1975 created a need to have a professional body to represent trainers and handlers in the private sector.
It also became apparent that the pet dog training field was also expanding rapidly and urgently required suitably trained and qualified instructors. As a professional organisation it was decided that they should take the lead in trying to encourage responsible dog ownership and also help the general public to gain a better understanding of their dogs.
In order to do this it seemed the best way was to try and raise the standard of knowledge and instruction techniques at the many dog training clubs that were proliferating throughout the country.

All our dog handlers are BIPDT TRAINED AND CERTIFICATED

Our security dogs are under the constant control of the dog handler at all times. Their function is to alert our handler of any human intruder and protect the handler where necessary. An experience guard dog security can be equally effective as up to five static security, providing a powerful visual deterrent, dogs have powerful hearing and scent senses and are able to search and find human presence better than up to five static guards. Guard dogs security are invaluable in searching and securing large areas.

While we are able to dispatch our guard dog security dog patrols units at short notice, you are more than welcome to visit our dog training centre in Kent. By appointment, you can see the security dogs in action, we also have highly accredited ex-forces instructors and handlers, who have a proven history and knowledge of the dog handler industry and can work efficiently with all agencies, security officers and the general public.

Our specialist guard dog security patrol units are an asset to any force concerned with security and our presence can greatly increase the effectiveness of any team.
